The discipline
A tile floor is set out before it is laid.
On a raised access floor the tile grid is set so it does not coincide with the panel joints. Get that wrong and lifting one panel takes four tiles with it.
Tile is fixed in tackified adhesive so it lifts cleanly years later, and the pile direction is set to the light, so the floor reads as one surface rather than a chequerboard.
